UpGrad: Helping people upgrading their skill set

UpGrad, an edtech company founded by Ronnie Screwvala, Mayank Kumar, and Phalgun Kompalli on March 23, 2015, is a prominent online higher education platform that specializes in delivering industry-relevant programs across various domains.

Their offerings include undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, such as the Doctor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration, with specializations in areas like Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Coding, Blockchain, Product Management, and Project Management.

UpGrad collaborates with prestigious institutions such as IIIT-B, BITS Pilani, MICA, and Cambridge Judge Business School to ensure that its curriculum aligns with contemporary industry standards. The platform emphasizes a comprehensive learning experience by integrating one-on-one mentoring, peer-to-peer learning, industry networking, and expert career guidance.

UpGrad’s mission is to empower college students, first-time job seekers, and working professionals to attain their full potential by offering programs designed to meet the dynamic demands of the job market. 

SWOT analysis of UpGrad

Strength: The strength of UpGrad lies in its extensive collaboration with various colleges and universities, enabling it to offer specialized programs in diverse fields such as marketing, finance management, and beyond.

Weaknesses: The primary weakness of UpGrad will be similar to that of most edtech startups, which is that it operates primarily as an online service model business. This necessitates access to the internet to utilize or access the UpGrad platform.

Opportunities: UpGrad intends to establish offline centres in select urban cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. The primary objective of these centres is to gauge learners’ interest in attending offline learning sessions rather than relying solely on online platforms.

Threat: Given the competitive nature of the edtech industry, some companies may possess all the necessary specializations and include government entrance exams, such as UPSC, in their offerings.

My Experience with Upgrad:

Currently, I am enrolled in Upgrad’s digital marketing course in collaboration with MICA. Despite being a working professional, Upgrad has made it possible for me to study at MICA.

The course covers various topics, including the latest marketing tools, AI integration in marketing, data analytics in marketing, and the significance of marketing communication and public relations in today’s digital media landscape.

I’ve gained knowledge in website creation, the importance of WordPress, and the fundamental principles of marketing. I am also writing a blog on the website I have created.

To enhance my knowledge and skills in digital marketing, I am eager to acquire new knowledge and expertise from Upgrad. By doing so, I aim to differentiate myself in the current competitive market.
